Are you quite sure? Apparently, if you equip the entire team with every bit of the clothing set, then, when you're losing badly in a fight, they perform a special attack. If I remember correctly, the remaining character washes away all the enemies with a tidal wave. Could some check that up? It's been a while since I last played.

Sounds like one of those nasty time-wasting rumours

The Aloha Gear is, I think, just so that you can have characters who are stylishly dressed, but completely defenceless. Just an amusing challenge.
