Default Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Wow, have you seen the reviews for this thing? Everyone loves it! That's a surprise because it's been looking like an unfaithful piece of garbage that completely misses the point from trailers!

Well, I decided to find out if it actually pulled through after all and went to see it today. What can I say? I absolutely loathed it to its core. So much, that I honestly can not believe people are actually giving it good reviews. Tim Burton has completely rearranged the film, and in some cases, put in things that are so completely off that they change the very meaning and purpose of the film altogether.

If you don't want to know, don't read on.

The most accurate review for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I've read for the film said "It has us understanding Willy Wonka in the end, and that's not a good thing." Which is exactly what's wrong with this movie- well I mean that's mostly what's wrong. The fact that Burton changed it into a movie about finding the meaning and importance of family, and the flashback where Willy Wonka discovers the Oompa Loompas in the forests of Oompaland were also a bit irritating.

Tim Burton has made a movie that bears little to no sense of the original Willy Wonka humor, having only a few random lines that come anywhere close. He has single handedly turned Willy Wonka into a cute childish jerk who, through the use of numerous flashbacks, shows us that he pursued his chocolatey dreams due to the hatred of his disapproving dentist father. He's loaded the film with popular, obvious, and worst of all, childish jokes stooping to such levels as "Don't touch that squirrel's nuts!"

I hate this movie, I hate the stupid new Oompa Loompa songs, I hate Johnny Depp's unfaithful new 'Willy Wonka', I hate all the stupid kids, and I hope someone burns in hell for making this.

Ahem, so anyway, what did you think?

Yeah, I have a feeling I won't like this film, it seems too child jokish to me, but I still probably will go see it

And I hate how the Oompa Loompas are all weird and ugly and not orange. :/

I won't see it for the lone reason that Johnny Depp scares me to death and makes me wanna puke my own guts.

They aren't even fat midgets, they're scaled down to the size of cats via CG and camera tricks. I don't usually say this, but it's retarded.

The only reason I'd see it IS for Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp is brilliant, but I think he degrades himself in this movie.

Johnny played the part masterfully, unfortunately for him, it was a terribly unfaithful part to play.

So sad... Johnny is my future husband, after Necronopticous. I really wish my favorite actor didn't take this role, although I'm sure he did well. I'll see the movie anyway, just to support himl. But thanks for the warning honey.

Why can't writers come up with original screenplays anymore? Seriously, let the classics rest in peace and stop pissing on their graves.

Are you comparing this to the original film or to the novel? Since, really, that's what would matter more to me.

...They changed Mike TV to Video Games though, by the look of the posters >_>

perhaps Tim Burton wanted to make a film that followed more closely to the Book that Willy Wonka was based on...

Therefore, it wasn't meant to undermine the original film, but rather be a better representation of the book.

Neither the book, nor the old film had any mention of Willy Wonka's disapproving dentist father, who he later, with the help of his sidekick Charlie reunites with and learns the importance and meaning of family. It completely changes the meaning and direction of both original mediums.

Ok, now I see your point, my urge to see this film is falling.

And I was so looking forward to see how it would turn out. Jesus, dentist, could you get any more cliche?

So they decided to give Willy Wonka backstory. I don't see the big deal. And Willy Wonka was a bit of a psychotic jerk in the books. It was his demented humour at the misfortune of the children that made me love the book. I hated the Gene Wilder film (though don't get me wrong, Gene Wilder is a genious). And the second trailer did give me high hopes, in contrast to the first which weirded me out.

Anyho.. Gonna see the IMAX version tomorrow. We'll see.

I think it looks terrible and the first movie was disgusting also.

You missed the point almost as much as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory did.
