    There is a man that I suggest for playing Willy Wonka that would best both these men, but for some reason whenever I say his name outloud (or type it on a keyboard, for that matter), several large men burst in the room wearing masks, beat me down and arrest me for cultism or something stupid like that.

    Confusing indeed.

    That's what happened when I suggested Danny DeVito, too. :{

    Roald Dahl died in 1990. While I'm sure he would have been impressed, as the tone of this movie was more toward the books.. I don't see him expressing it anytime soon.

    Tim Burton is good, and so is Depp, but Gene Wilder kicks ass ten times over. If not just for Willy Wonka, then for Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles and The Producers.

    For further research, I need a few answers:

    -Does Depp do the whole thing when he first appears where he pretends to be kinda old and grumpy, and then suddenly becomes fun, like Wilder did?

    -There is song in the new one, right? We've still got the Oompa-loompa Song?

    I'm tending to lean towards Wilder right now, as just the way he looked for the part seemed to fit more. Depp looks childish, while Wilder looked old and wizened but still fun. I'll have to see the new one for further comparison, though.
