I was just curious as to why there is a limit on PM size mainly though.
Probably because we can easily moderate large posts, but not large PMs.

no limit on usernotes either, although I have been known to delete excessively long usernotes, unless they contain the text to The Great Gatsby.
There is, in fact, a limit on post size for the forums and it happens to be about 16MB = the data size of a mySQL mediumtext column type.

Wow...16,777,215...my NIN post was only 178,703 and that was at least 160 pages long. I would hate to imagine how horrendous 16 million is like.
