yeah but how do you actually download it. You have to compile it etc and I don't know how to do that :/
    I'll figure it out later...

You don't have to compile it, you can just download the Windows version here:
    http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
You have to download both GTK for Windows and The Gimp.

GIMP uses layers too? That's how Image Ready works. Though I much prefer Animation Shop. But in Image Ready there's a player thing at the bottom left usually. And you add layers much like you do in Photoshop. And it animates the layers, each layer is a frame in the animation. Really I suppose the only difference is the frames are lined up vertically instead of horizontally. Animation Shop lays them out horizontal. My preference.

I always felt Image Ready was the best program to use because if you're working with little space you can save the images you'll be using to an optimized file size before you port them to Image Ready. I had to reduce the quality of my avatar in order to make it 2 frames. Don't really notice it that much unless you're comparing it to the original.

Photoshop is always superior with file sizing. PSP7 doesn't let you flip between quality and file size, and Animation Shop does, but badly and very limitedly.

Quite true. But Photoshop does everything better than Paint Shop Pro. But Jasc is trying! Well... I take that back. I have both programs, and I use PSP WAY more than Photoshop. For simple and minor things PSP is so much more user-friendly. And doesn't take nearly as long to load if you just want to open a picture or something. But then again... I have irfan view, which is even better at even more simple and minor things XD

Psp has file optimization. I find it a lot easier to use than photoshop's.

However, photoshop has much nicer dither patterns.

ZeZipster's post makes no sense to me xD

Avatars here can't be more than 6 kb. The original ProzacCat unanimated was 4.55 kb, if you do the math on that 2 frames of 4.55 kb images (they'd be exactly equal sizes, because each frame is the same except for inverse colors) is not under 6 kb . So what I did was I took the original and went File > Save For Web > Hit the little arrow next to the Preset drop box > clicked Optimized To Filesize > and set it to 3 kb and saved it in a folder along with the inverted. Then I imported that folder to frames in ImageReady and happily saved it as a .gif.
