Then he mysteriously dies in one of the FMV's, just before it's about to finish. I think he has a brain haemorraghe. Anyway, you must defeat the spider queen after you fight the G-Tribe in Cosmo Canyon, you go back down after you found Serpah, and the Spider Queen is there. If you don't do this straight away you never get the chance to do it again, and you have to dig him up after beating cheese weapon. It's worth it though, his limit breaks are the most powerful in the game, "Fists of Fury" is a particularly good one, 32 hits at maximum 9999 cumulative damage.
