When it comes to replaying a game, FFIX has the absolute worst beginning.
FFX's is pretty bad too. Thankfully, every one of these games picks up.
I would have to say that the best is, hands down, FFVII. In my opinion, the beginning of that game is the most fun part of the entire game.
Best: Final Fantasy IX - All the minigames that you can play within the first few minutes are reason enough to keep you interested, and it only gets better.
Worst: Final Fantasy VI - I still have trouble remembering who the main character is. First it makes it seem like Terra, then Locke, then Edgar...

Best: FFVII of course because it is so perfectly crafted together with the music and whatnot. Also, Midgar is the best town in FF.
FFVI: As Kishi previously described, tells you exactly whats going on straight from the get-go.
FFVIII: I have to admit, I really enjoyed the whole school atmosphere for the first hr or so. It was just so surreal it madeit awesome.
Worst:
FFX: First time through, I had no interest in the game until about when you get to Luca.
FF IX: Same as above. But then, after the Ice Cave, things really started to pick up. Now I look back and I love the beginning, but it didnt have the effect on me that the others did.
FF X-2: Not interesting for me.
I'm too lazy to type out all the others, but most of them are really good.

FF4 does kinda have a boring start but its still on the best top 5 FF's out there...

I think FFIX had my favorite beginning. It really just drew me in; the characters were so alive, and it mixed some pretty awesome cinematics with a few humorous scenes and a couple really fun minigames. Plus, I loved how you went from character to character. It was thriling knowing they'd all be meeting up at one point or another, and intriguing to know just how it would happen. I liked the openings of VI and VII, though I don't remember them having a whole lot of impact on me. Except fighting with moogles. That was awesome.
Schoolgirls, Kishi. I thought it would be your favorite.
Their uniforms are lame, and they're, what, 17? Bunch of sagging grannies.
