I agree with you that FFX-2 is a good game, and I also think that the single phrase "overdoing it" doesn't mean much, but there's nothing to make another game out of. Everything has been completed. The people that didn't like X-2 but liked X usually seem to have felt that they were trying to make another story out of one that had already been completed. A third game out of something which now definitely has been completed except maybe the bevelle zanarkand war would probably feel repetitive. FF7 left a lot of loose ties open (note the abundance of arguments over what different things mean) which makes a sequel seem much more reasonable. We know very little about vincent for example I hope dirge of cerberus adds to what we know about him. By the way though I wish they weren't puuting so much work into sequels.
