Rei, I like how she develops over the course of the anime, given her rather unique status.
Mistato is quite hilarious though, she's a close second.
And I think all the reasons I dislike Asuka have already been stated, so I'll not reiterate them here.
Rei Ayanami is...just cool. How she reacts to every situation is awesome, I am envious.
Asuka. Last episode ( movie? I dunno this series gave me a headache ) had me smitten when she kicked ass and took names. I love how bitchy she is, especially when she has to synch with Shinji.
I loved it, except for the very end. W.T.F? I understand symbolism and I got what they were saying ( I think ) but still . . . a little too over the top for me. A GREAT anime but not the best imho.
