Well...I don't like the model of the modern north american society. It dosen't mean it's a bastion of evil, it's just that I believe it's mode of working is preety dehumanized. Of course, there are worse.

As for USA as a country in the world, well, it's the largest superpower. Powerful countries have never been very nice, and well...at the time USA external politics are directed by some filthy people.

ooooh a thread made all for me. i feel so lucky.

i have nothing against the american people. well not as much as i have against any other people. they consist of a higher percentage of people i don't like than most ther countries because of their views etc. but i don't associate scum with american.

i refuse to buy american goods however, fruit, macdonalds, coke, rice, sugar etc. because as a country i refuse to support them. the country and it's system and politics as a whole i have the problem with. corrupt, materialistic, greedy society.

No, no, and no. Prosperity =/= greed. Corruption exists in all nations and systems. Materialism is neither good nor bad, it simply is. If you can get something from ownership of items, good for you. If you like other things, good for you. Nobody has the right to say "You're shallow because you don't share my ideas on spirituality/the value of things.". Oh, and Americans are generally not greedy at all. Not most of the ones I've met at least. Again, prosperity =/= greed.

Yes, there's nothing shallow and jejune about disliking people as indivuduals because of views they hold, rather than because of who they are.

It's hard to describe how I feel about America right now. It's got a lot of problems, both politically and socially. I still love America, if nothing else it gives you the best chance to live your life however you want to. I really don't like the politics right now. Things have become too confrontational concerning Democrats and Republicans. I myself don't like either Party. I don't like the whole Party system a lot at all. I can't stand anyone who makes up their mind on a situation without looking at it from all sides, and that's what Party members usually do. I went to this thing called Boy's State, which was basically a week long leadership seminar based on local level government. It disgusted me how in just a week everyone got caught in this whole confrontation between the two Parties there. And we didn't even choose our Parties, we were just put in one. But it tought me a lot about why I didn't like the government. If anyone would like me to go into greater detail, I'll do it on a different thread or something, don't want to clog this one up.

But still, America has a lot of good things about it. The best thing I like about it is there is no defined 'American Culture.' We're such a mixed culture that you can't just label yourself as one thing or the other, you basically have to define yourself in whatever way you want.

One last thing about America right now. I didn't like Bush or Kerry. I think that our choices in President's these past few elections have been seriously lacking. They need to do something to change the way we elect our President, most of the good candidates don't make it for stupid reasons like money or rumors. I would have voted for Howard Dean over Bush or Kerry, even though I still don't think Dean was all that great.

America isn't a bastion of evil, it's a bastion of stupidity.

It's not ALL Americans who are evil, just some. I'm American, and I don't really care. Personally, I hate our government and think that it's full of slack-jawed yokels *caugh* Bush *caugh* I mean for the lad of the free and home of the brave I sure do see a lot of restrictions, and laws and chickens who arn't willing to admit that our government needs to make some changes in this day and age . . . But hey, it's home I guess . . . I'm not exactly your typical American . . . I hate stereotypes, but most Americans ARE ignorent, and selfesentered. Notice I said MOST and not ALL. I mean we're not all a bunch of zombie clones of Bush.

"Nobody has the right to say "You're shallow because you don't share my ideas on spirituality/the value of things."." i actually do. that's what views are. yo have them and you disagree with those who don't share them. i didn't like hitler's idea's, i didn't like pol pots ideas, i don't like the bnp's ideas, i don't like a lot of american ideas and i have every right to think lower of the people who have them.

"Yes, there's nothing shallow and jejune about disliking people as indivuduals because of views they hold, rather than because of who they are." a persons views are part of who they are, i will never be friendly with a racist, sexist, facist, or idiot.

"prosperity =/= greed" american society seems to praise greed and materialism. it is what you do with the prosperiety that makes you greedy.

Yes but not every American thinks a certain way, and it's wrong to assume that we all do.

From what I see america is great and founded on good principles. Those principle have fallen on the shoulders of pollitions who would rather focus energy on makeing money, than servering the people. Isn't that why salaries were made for the politicians - to promote a decent, but not over robust life style for them.

Our country is great no dobut. Our government needs a good cleaning, and I think several corperations need to be put in there place as well. Namley Ford/GM/Dodge (big three). I wanna Tucker lol

Over all - one of my favorite bumperstickers that I seen plastered on a VW buss passing me on the freeway while spitting out gobs of exsaust (presumably a 2% carbon dioxide, 98% marajuanna mix) said: I love my country, but fear for my government.

    That sums it up nicely.

My views are mixed - I have no quarrel with the American people at all,but I do have my concerns about America's role as a hyperpower in the coming century and the consequences of her policies towards the likes of China and North Korea, and the greed and arrogance which seems to permeate her politics nowadays, while it's being promoted by overtly patriotic flag-wavers as a perfect society with no problems when the reality is less optimistic.Well, nothing is really perfect so enough said.

i wouldn't mind seeing the american view of it's own greatness taken down a peg or two.

also much has been said about american lack of an actual real culture. do you believe it?

Personally I feel its other countries that have the EGO problem. They look at us as some huge evil empire. You know - i see some french/british/mexican/asian person and I say "What's up". Its like that all over where I live. We are actually damn peacful people. WE like to "talk shat" and have an adventure now and then but that is it. Other countries are intimdated by us why?

I talk to a lot of people who travel ( I am a fairly open person) and they say that they are by far most welcomed in America. I hear reports of horrid racism in other countries (Asian and eastern eropean mostly). I wasnt too suprised to hear that france is unwelcoming. I rely on the testemony of others because mine would definatley be biased. There is a reson we have pride in out country (both Americans, and visitorys).

I like it though - seeing the rest of the perfect world ripping on us high and mighty americans.... bah, I guess if i was Number 2 i would bitch too. lol

Fix yourselves - then call us - or if you get in another war again.. we can come bail you out.
