Exactly. You can't tell us in todays world that without business people's lives would be better than it is now.

We never said business was the people.

A failure which made America the most powerful nation on the planet. And which put Japan close behind. A failure which, when it was being used by Europe, brought them from medieval-era technologies and industries to being able to manufacture tens of thousands of ships, planes, tanks, guns, computers, tables, plates, and God only knows what else - all without Stalin's 20,000,000 Human sacrifices.

A failure which, as India and China move closer towards, they increase in wealth and prosperity, both becoming able to support over one billion people.

my point was that what necessarily benefits business does not benefit the people. that view is a laissez faire society.

and i can say that if business had been ran differetly then the world would be better and people's lives.

Where do you think 'the people' would be - without business?

Business has elevated countless countries out of their medieval feudalism. It has produced millions of products that increse human comfort and cast down long-work days. For the first time, humans have a surplus of wealth; they don't have to worry about the future, because they can now produce far more -with business- than they ever could without business. By creating a mass market - because they want to make a pile of money - these men and women are able to sell the products to all income levels, increasing the living standards of everyone everywhere. Does that not benefit the people?

hasn't done so well in briging the rich poor gap. it has in fact expanded it and made third world countries poorer.

victorain britian was based on the same principles that you believe are correct. victorian britain was a cess pool of death and decay and explotiation. we do not want to go back to those times.

Um, forgive my ignorance on Britain, but didn't the plague do that?

Did victorian Britian have protection of individual rights - the premise of a free society (and a free economy)?

You can't say anythin about the poor rich gap. That is based on people's choices in life. Things don't work out every time either. The good seem to out weigh the bad here.

the rich-poor gap is also caused by the poverty cycle.

    Wow, funny stuff.

Ok everyone lets go back to caves and not berter anymore! BOO! Bartering requires buisness and economy - weather YOU like it or not. Ever see a town that has no BUSINESSES? Its a SLUM ... slum means poor town. hrm - throw in some jobs (ugh cant do it we can't have business)... Ok get in your stick house and make a fire... So much for buisness not helping the poor become rich.
(That would be greed you are talking about cloud - greed can get in the way, but it is not in anyway one entity known as business)

Bipper - The american way :yellowkin > ( and that is evil)?

    That's not a by-product of pure capitalism.

it is the way in which business is conducted and the way in which riches are used that is the problem.

As to all this about the U.S.

Don't hate cause you a'int, baby.

I support my country and my troops. No country is perfect but I think we do the best with what we have. Some people say things like, "America sucks cause they killed all the indians". I'm sorry but I just dont see the point in arguments like these. For one, this happend many years ago, and second, native americans get HUGE reparations (and justly so). Im willing to bet that every country has done something in their past that they can be ashamed of. Hell, look at Germany. The point is that you shouldnt judge an entire country or their people by things that are completly out of their hands and before their time. A country should be judged by their actions in the present, not in the past. No, I'm not denying that the U.S. has made some confusing decisons lately, but does that make me a bad person just for living here? Does it make the American people as a whole, bad people? No. So I'm saying, everyone chill out. I live here and I'm glad, and I'm not bashing your countries. Well, occasionally I might joke about France...
