i have actually seen bad neighbourhoods. i'm not shielded from this world.
what do americans need to survive? a dollar a day wage? genocide? drought? famine? disease? civil war? and 10k a year is 27x more than a dollar a day averge african. try surviving on that. millions upon millions do it daily.
this is what grates on me "western poverty". it doesn't exist.

show me an article or a pciture regarding the starving to death of these people with listless eyes, swollen stomachs and damned to die now if they eat or not.
people do not starve in welfare society's there is the odd case of the extreme old or disabled who cannot leave the house and starve because of that. but no parent or person will starve while help and food is freely available to them.

ok, im gonna butt in here. you obviously have no idea how many people in this country dont or cant recieve welfare. You have no Idea how many transcients there are in this country living on $1 a day. I can go downtown in my city, and on every block, there is atleast 1 bum. It may not be as bad here as it is in your country (sorry, im not quite sure where you are), but it still is bad.

i live in scotland. not a country in poverty. so we are talking about the homeless then? i know certainly in my country sleeping on the streets is very rare to be forced. there are hostels both government and charity. the salvation army and other groups.
we have something like that here in america, but the problem is they are only in the really big towns, which I would have to drive 3 hours to get to. I live in a good sized town, but evidently not big enough. Portland, the city just across the river had a little camp town for the homeless, so they could have shelter and a place to stay, but the mayor was an ass and broke the camp up.
this is off topic, but, whats the scenery like in scotland where human life hasnt taken control of. Ive always wanted to visit scotland and ireland to see what its like.
