Default Did George Lucas copy the Jedi Knights off of Catholicism

Do you think Lucas copied the make-up of Jedi Knights off of Catholic priests? Although Priests are not warriors like the Jedi are. In the movies however the Jedi dress much the same, and have alot of the same values and moral beliefs as catholic priests do.

I dont really see much reason to think so but I know hardly anything about Star Wars. Id have compared them to Paladins before Id have compared them to priests.

Actually if you watch episode 3 it dripps with patriotic comments about democracy and such and shows what happens with the destruction of people's rights so if anything the Jedi are protectors of liberty I think.

The Jedi bear certain similarities to a number of world religions (or at least in the Prequel Trilogy) so it's obvious that those faiths influenced Lucas in some way. I wouldn't say they're particularly similar to Catholic priests though. The dress code is somewhat similar, but most of the other Jedi customs are quite different, and the beliefs of the Jedi and Catholics aren't really alike either.

I didn't see religion in it really, more democracy and patriotism, as FF freak said. Then again, I've only seen the 1st and 3rd movies so I dunno much.

Nevermind Catholicism, Lucas totally ripped off Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress for Star Wars.

The core Jedi beliefs seem a lot like liberal Buddhism to me. Especially the Jedi Code. I don't remember what it is, but it's in KotoR.
