Thread: FFVIII movie . . . ?

Whether it "did better" could be debated. Statistics are complicated, not black and white. I've seen charts where FFVII is higher and others where FFVIII is. FFVII also has an advantage because it's older. But I don't know anything so don't yell at me.

And come on people, enough of the "_____ is the best and _____ SUCKS!!!" It's kinda immature...

I think Square-Enix chose FFVII because it was probably just easier somehow and like people have said, FFVII was more open-ended than FFVIII. Plus the graphics have more of an impact because they're so much better than the game's while FFVIII's was already pretty realistic. I don't want them to remake anything, it'll make me sad.

they were both very good games. I liked FFVIII better but an FFVIII movie would suck. It would be one of the worst movies ever made from a video game.

because VII is classified as squar enix's best selling along with VI

plus FFVII seemed unfinished in a few ways and they could make a movie from II's story but VIII is finished

No, VII outsold VIII by a wide margin. It's initial sales alone I believe beat VIII's cumulative sales. We're talking by the millions here. The two games werent released far enough apart to have inflation make much of a difference, and I'm pretty sure it went by copies sold and not money made.

I have a page saved at home, but I'm not at home so I cant post it. But I just want to add that I'm not saying this as a rabid VII fan, it's not at all one of my favorite games. I just understand why Square chose it, especially given it's much larger, rabid fanbase. VIII has it, but I think VII's fanbase is larger.

I think any movie with "Final Fantasy" is enough to capture the attentions of others. I watched TSW because it have a "Final Fantasy" in its name and the movie....well...I think that is not important.

FF8 would be the greatest movie ever if it was done properly.
It would have to be four movies though. (one per disk)
Because cutting bits out is unimaginable it can't be done. But each disk leaves a cliff hanger (except the last one) Which would be perfect for a set of movies.
The first one with squall and the sorceress where she pierces him with the ice thingy, that as the end would make people who didn't play the game want to see the second. which would end with rinoa going into the coma, making them want to see the third. And although the ending to the third isn't as good as the other cliff hangers people would still go see the fourth as it ends the story.
Final fantasy fans would likly go and see it anyway regardless.
I think VIII is the best game ever, and that is going purly of the storyline, i think it has incredable potential for a movie.

BTW: This is my first post. Hello all

i think FFX-2 would have made an excellant movie if they hadent brought it out as a game because FFX was FANTASTIC totally and UTERRLY FANTASTIC and X-2 was EQUALLY good and the way FFX ended would have been perfect for a movie

Here an Idea for a laugh.
    Imagine this...
They are making a FF8 movie, exactly like the game. However it's not going to be a computer animated film. They ask you to decide the cast.

Who would you cast as who???
Which Final Fantasy 8 Character Are You? You are Seifer! You're a bad-boy (or bad-girl) loner whose
cool, surly image can be very intriguing to the opposite sex.
Deep down, you feel really screwed by the world in general.
It's like no one understands who you really are. Even you.

Take the Final Fantasy 8 Test here!

I would cast that french chick that played Cyrano's cousin in the movie Cyrano She'd need to dye her hair the right color, but she seems very quistisy to me.

Unfortunately I do not remember her name, but I'm sure it's in a thread on the second or third page.

Actually I could see a way to make a FFVIII movie, but you are right in saying it would be more politcally motivated instead of save the world type of thing.

Mind you my facts could be off (I havent replayed it in several years).
Rinoa has Sorceress powers at the end of the game, right? Well i could see a story were a political mass of people have an uprising seeking to destroy the "last" (Notice the quotation marks) sorceress left. Squall can have his whole mentally struggle about whether he should protect the same power he just sought to destroy. Our cast can join in for the fight, and Seifer and his lackies can be hired by the masses to kill the sorceress. Thus we have Squall and Seifers huge battle, a massive fight going on with the rest of the cast, the love story renewed, and a movie is made.

Didnt say it was a good idea just what i could see them doing if they did it.

Hmnmm.... with Squall and such, the personal matters have come to a nice end. Any FF VIII movie or sequel would need different protagonists I would think. Maybe Irvine or such could go in again, but Squall and Rinoa might be better NPC's.

However, the world OUTSIDE them, while no longer threathened by time compression, ISN'T exactly stable is it? Esthar got overrun by monsters. Remember what happened to the Cetra civilization? Esthar is gonna have to fight for his life. Galbadia is suddenly leaderless, with Timber probably in revolt. Likely you'll get Esthar refuguees, but there might be old hatreds between vengeful people from 'the other continents' and the Xenophobic Estharians. SeeD is probably having an idenity crisis. Are they mercenaries? Or soldiers specialized in hunting Sorceresses? Should they hunt down ALL sorceresses. but the Commander's wife is.... eh... Are there more Sorceresses around? Oh, and what's up with Guardian Forces?

And beyond all that. What IS happening there on the moon. There seems to be a link between Guardian Forces, Sorceresses, Monsters and the moon. Is someone upthere, hatefully glaring down at humanity?

    Hyne?

No, I think the world of FF VIII might not be , despite the calm state of Balamb and Balamb Garden, a very peaceful place.

VIII might be better to be made into a movie, VII could do better for a remake.

    But those are suggestions.

I didn't like FFVIII, in fact it's one of my least favs, so the idea isn't to appealing to me.
