Angry Esthar - Game dies! - HELP!

Guys, I'm bummed, I think my game is broken!

I'm replaying VIII. I crossed the Great Salt Lake (hope thats right), beat Abadon, and climb in the hidden opening. I have Rinoa on my back, and I just made it into Esthar (sorry if I'm spelling that wrong). I have Edea and Zell in my party. I walk in and go in the elevator. It goes to the side, and then it goes up. There is a scene with Rinoa on the ground and everyone says something. You make it to the top, and Zell asks Squall what the plan is. Squall says something like, "The usual, lets go". After that you go in the door to leave the elevator.

Here is where I'm stuck. The next room has the elevator in it in the foreground. There is a hemi-spherical floor past it. At the end of the floor is this dark gray wall. It is made of of thin horizontal blocks. I hear my playstation spin a couple times and thats it. I can walk around, but I can't bring up my menu, I can't click on anything, nothing.

Is this room normal? Am I missing something or is my game broken? I looked at the disk. It looks pretty good actually, just a couple minor scratches. I cleaned it up and tried again, same thing happened.

So, my question is, am I missing something? I've hit all the buttons everywhere and I can't open anything. Should I pop out disk 3 right before that scene and try disk 4 then put disk 3 back in? Or will that screw me up? Should I change party members? Should I buy a new game? Am I just missing something, or do I need a new disk?

Thanks for anyone's help in advance!

Be careful, FutureEsthar might use this as 'evidence' in his latest theory.

    FutureEsthar?

Yeah, I tried leaving it and go back to the elevator. It didn't work. My triangle button doesn't bring up the menu anymore or nothing.

I was curious how much of the game was on all the disks. If it is a disk issue, would switching them mid-move do anything. Or maybe it coudl be my save game?

I wish I coudl take a screenshot and show you guys.

This isn't ff7. You need the right disc to play.

Sounds like a disk problem, to me. If there's a scratch *just right* on the cd, usually over an FMV, especially if that movie also includes sprite movements as well, then that scene will tend to crash the game. Your best bet would be to find a replacement for the disk. Since you actually own a hard copy of the software, it's perfectly legal for you to duplicate a friend's, or use a file sharing program.

But, a new copy of the disk is your best bet. Also, I think there are some hacks that allow the game play without the disk in the computer, but I won't recommend those, that could be dangerous. Spyware/virii/etc aren't cool.

Ah, well you were right. When you get off the elevator, there is a brief second where there is a gray wall. But if your disk works correctly, a move will start of your part flying through the city.

    Mine never brought that up.

I ended up just buying a new disk. Bummer, but ho hum.

Anyone need disks 1,2 or 4? I seem to have an extra set.

    Thanks for the help!

Try this: Get some rubbing alcahol and a cotton ball. Put the rubbing alcahol onto the cotton ball and rub it onto the back of your CD in an up and down, and left to right motion. Then clean the alcahol off with a soft cloth. Works wonders for me whenever my games don't work.

It might be worth a shot. Someone told me that I can get a disk repaired at some movie stores for a couple bucks. I might give that a go and see if it works.

    Thanks for all the help!

Yeah, we have a GameCrazy here that offers the service of buffing out disks with scratches for a few bucks. Its connected to Hollywood Video. Not sure how popular it is elsewhere in the states, let alone internationally. But the store is just like GameStop, and EB Games. So I'd suggest someone who deals with used games, as a buffer is a must have when you get people's junk games to have to try and re-sell. If they don't have one, then they're either in financial trouble, idiots, or just... weird.
