The intro song on the Title screen. That *is* Final Fantasy.
I rmember the first time I heard it - the only FF game I'd ever played was FFVII, and when I got FFI and loaded it up, I was surprised to hear the same music. It's held a place in my heart ever since.

Is it just me or does the town theme sound exactly like the Shire theme from Lord of the Rings?

It's the same melody either way. I noticed that at one point and ever since I haven't been able to watch LotR without wondering why the shire doesn't have a magic shop. Or an armor store. Useless shire...
