Stuck at a part
Ok I have just left the returner's hideout and went down the river all the way to this octopus boss. Now when I get him down to low health, he sais Y-you frighten me, and then he kills baron with one big slash of his tentacle. Anyway to prevent this?
just make sure hes at full health and work on killing him quickly cuz ur right about ultros being a pain in the ass.

Wait a minute. Wasn't there a way in Final Fantasy V that allowed you to set a character to defend another. I hope its in this one. If not, I'm wondering how to set characters in the back row, because they receive less damage there
I don't think you can do it in this one.
Always have Banon do Health. Always. Always always. Got it?
And before you even start off, put Banon in the back row. This will about half the physical damage he takes. And Health will keep his HP close to full.
To put somebody in the back row, simply go to your menu and press Left. You can switch characters' positions (the first position reflects the leader of the group) and choose rows by selecting a character twice, as if you were to have them switch positions with themselves.
I had a lot of trouble with Ultros too when I first played this game.
If you're at a decent enough level it's quite simple though!

PS The only way a character can be protected by another character in this game is if you equip a True Knight relic.
Equip it on the character who will be protecting the other characters.
Then when a proctectee is low on HP, the protector will take any physical attacks aimed at the protectee.
if hes in the back row on full health and still gets killed you need to level up.

True Knight is nice, but if your guys aren't Critical, it won't change anything. Say, if they have 100 HP, and below 90 would make them Critical, they won't be protected. Which doesn't help them much, seeing as Tentacle would kill Bannon even if he's not Critical. Just put him in the back row and have him do nothing but Health, and he should be fine.
just hold on till Sabin comes and use pummel, hes very easy....

You might be thinking of Vargas. Don't use Pummel on Ultros, as he counters to it. Use Aura Bolt instead, because Suplex doesn't work.
Just constantly use health with bannon every turn. Ultros is pretty easy when you employ this tactic.
