Well, neither have I, but you'll likely spoil yourself if you look in walkthroughs of some games. Besides, knowing doesn't have the same affect as if you're watching/playing/reading the spoiler for the first time.

Apparently, I have been declared banished.

If it had been ruined for you, then you would have been in a position to say to yourself, "Oh, well. I had seven years to play that game and find out on my own."

It's pretty easy to stay out of threads/forums pertaining to things you dont want to be spoiled about. If it's that big of a deal to you, why go to forums at all?

"Oh, well. I had seven years to play that game and find out on my own."

but age should not be an issue. i mean if i was watching some film..... lets say the silence of the lambs for the first time and the guy beside me says "oh he escapes by eagling one guard and then wearing the face of the other, oh look here he goes now." i would be pretty miffed.

Yet this is a forum, and you can control what you read, hence not reading threads about Silence of the Lambs.

It's not a matter of how much time you've had to play the game/watch the movie/read the book as it is that, after two years, most people who wanted to do so have done so, and putting forth effort to save the minority from being spoiled is a waste of effort. Why should people worry about saying Aeris died for the three people that don't know?

If a game has been out for a week than saying a spoiler would effect a large amount of people. After two years (which I think is a generous amount of time) it becomes the slow person's responsibility to save themselves. Are you incapable of being responsible for yourself, Cloud?

no i just don't see why if a thread about an old thing can be avoided why can't one about a new thing be avoided in the same way?

It can, it's called "selective reading". Members are free to choose what thread to read, if they want to avoid a thread about a movie/book/game they don't want spoiled, they simply don't read the thread. It's really not that hard. If the member reads the thread and gets spoiled, it's their damn fault.

Honestly, this is one case where I'm in agreement with Cloud, but I'm obviously in a very small minority here. I do think that the policy about spoilers should be made a bit more prominent, however, as most message boards require the marking of spoilers and it's entirely possible that an unsuspecting neophyte to this one would wander into a thread and receive unwanted spoilers. However, I can't think of a good system to do such a thing that wouldn't be obnoxious, so whatever.

Incidentally, I've had about three movies spoiled for me by reading this thread. Thanks guys.

This thread definitely reminded me of Aaron. Putting the fact that Magus can join the party in Chrono Trigger in spoiler text and all. I'd hoped he'd outgrown it, though.

I don't understand the problem here. If you don't want a 5-year-old game spoiled that you're just starting, don't read a thread about it.

A thread about a new game/book/whatever is more likely to have people looking in it that haven't finished it yet, but are interested. This is why the spoiler rule for new games. If a game is years old, most people who care to know already know, and the others should be smart enough to avoid threads about it.

Really, it's quite pointless to say in the FF7 forum (SPOILER)Aeris dies when everyone reading that thread already knows.

It stands to reason that a very large number of internet newbies come to Eyes on Final Fantasy, as it is currently the second largest Final Fantasy-related forum on the Internets (AdventChildren.net is inexplicably the largest). It also stands to reason that a large number of Internet newbies would not expect to encounter spoilers in threads asking for assistance with games, and if they enter the Final Fantasy X forum seeking nothing more than help with their game only to witness thread titles such as "AFTER YUAN DIES HOW DO I GET THE AIRSHIP (SPOILER)LOL," it stands to reason that they would be very displeased indeed, the fact that the spoiler is fake notwithstanding. (Needless to say, the spoilers users would encounter would most likely be real).

Maybe you want to upset and alienate a small percentage of your audience, seeing as you currently receive so much traffic regardless, but I don't think you got to be as large as you are by doing that, and as a site owner I find it helps to remember my roots.
