Thread: FF6 Limit Breaks

  1. #1

    Default FF6 Limit Breaks

First of all, for all the noobs who think I'm in the wrong forum, I assure you I'm not.

I was just curious which limit breaks everyone here has actually seen. I've seen Locke's and Shadows, and they're plenty nifty. Which have you seen? And I was wondering, does anyone know how I could see these animations without having to battle a million times (i.e. a save state, or some downloadable something-or-other)?

I've seen Riot Blade, X-Meteo, Tiger Fang, and possibly Royal Shock?

Uh I know they're in there. But they were called despiration attacks back then. 'Cause you could only use them when you were severely close to death. But I've seen Celes's for sure. Can't remember if anyone else did one for me...

    ok how about these:
    Riot Blade - Terra
    Spin Edge - Celes
    Tiger Break - Sabin
    Mirager - Locke
    Royal Shock - Edgar
    Star Prism - Relm

they are all i can remember right now, although i must confess spin edge is the best looking, to do a desperation attack you must be low on health and then i think it is a 1/16 chance to do it when you choose "Fight"

What was Shadows one again? i think Strago and Relms ones involved something like STar Prism and Soul Saber or Soul Prism and Star Saber, if anyone wants a movie i have of all the desperation attacks tell me and i can send it ok?

I've seen Celes', but that's it.

I've considered going around, fighting really weak enemies, and getting myself down to Critical levels (weak enemies so I don't have to worry about them killing me). And then always choosing "Fight" so I can see their Desperation Attacks.

And I'll just add in like everyone else that they are Desperation Attacks, not Limit Breaks.

Don't drag down FFVI with that FFVII filth.

I don't think that I've ever seen any of them, but then again I try to keep my hit points up and I've never gone out of my way to try and see them.

Is there really any need to differentiate names? The limit breaks in FF8 were based around characters on critical HP, and they were called thus. I know that when FF6 came out, they were called desperation attacks, but Limit Break sounds better…

I must say, the limit breaks (I’m going to call them that, despite you all if nothing else…) were very powerful during the beginning of the game. Locke’s limit break caused 7000 damage to an enemy when my max damage at that point with anything was 500!

Luckily, Limit Breaks in FF6 come up far less frequently than in latter FF games…

Were they ever officially named Desperation Attacks--say, in the SNES version strategy guide--or is that just a fan-created name? They were called Limit Breaks in the official FFAnthology guide.

Hmm, I honestly don't know if they were ever mentioned at all in any SNES era guide or manual. I think that they were more of an easter egg to discover.

If that's the case, then their only official name is Limit Breaks. That doesn't mean you have to call them that, of course, but it certainly means that you can't tell other people not to.

I would like the movies! Final_Heaven_33, if you could send them in a message to me, that would be cool. Can you actually send attachments through one of these forum messages though? hmmm. As far as calling them desperation attacks instead of limit breaks, I didn't really know how many people would recognize them as such, so the first game when they became the "in" thing would be 7. But hey, since we're on the discussion, Trances were so awful in FF9. They would've been cool if you weren't forced to do them. I can recall many fights where my character would go into trance right as the battle ended. Man that sucked. 6 was the coolest. I freaked out when I saw Locke's for the first time. Actually I believe I've seen edgars too, now that I see the names. I can't recall what shadow's was.

But...but...that means that it's copying FFVII.

The Movie i have of all the Desperation Attacks just shows them all one by one, most of them are real cool, i remember when i first saw Locke's one i was in the burning house and you need to save Relm, then you fight that "Grenade" type boss, it was against that and it killed it, i was astonished really. Soul Prism and Star Saber kill in one no matter what so unfortunately the BEST Desperation Attacks are on the WORST characters.
