mop= a chore gift for shera. he might as well use it while he has it, and give it to her when he gets a good chance or when it's her birthday.
"bat"= it wasn't just a bat. it was a NAIL bat. that does HELLA more damage than a bat. and it's not like ffvii is paranoia agent. more violence (meaning more violent weapons)

Aeris: An umbrella, not gonna hit very hard (think the Parasol should have been Cid's weird weapon. Aeris's weird weapon should have been, like, the Mop Handle.)
Red XIII: A hairpin
Yuffie: A rubber ball that bounces and is pretty hard. Can give a black eye.
Cait Sith: the shell of a trumpet. What? None of his weapons make sense! *geez*

everyone has an everyday item they use that is powerful but can't hold materia. Makes sense to me.

the thing with FFVII is that the weapon / armour system was very Linear, every town you go to you buy the weapons and the armour with the same slots and stuff and no diversity and it was like that with finding weapons too, like in one little section you would find a weapon with no slots for everyone, it got quite boring because all the best armours and weapons you found. The Nailbat is useless because of no materia slots, there is no way attack power will ever compensate for materia slots, HOWEVER the Ziedrich you steal off of the Turks in the return to Midgar has 100 defense (best in game) and gives you phenominal defense against physical and magic attacks but no slots, that is definately worth having equipped. Maybe if Aeris had it on she woulden't have died?

But one of Cid's spears happens to be a scimitar......they should have made a rapier for Barret as an attachable fist though.
