    urgent

There's this computer - HP Pavilion with Windows XP home and a 1.8 ghz Celeron CPU. There's some other numbers too (ignored them)
I try to turn it on and it loads but tells me something REALLY boring in REALLY ugly font. So I choose normal mode.
Everything is okay and then it's got that splash screen crap and those scrolling boxes to tell me it's loading. Then the screen goes black, it turns off. I can't turn it back on and the standby light is orange.
Only way to get it going again is to turn it off on the wall and turn it back on.
So then I choose safe mode and the same thing happens, with only more writing (not important).
It's not my computer so I don't know how it's been used.
Apparently this happens on and off.

P.S. It's urgent because if I can fix it I might get laid, come on guys help me out here.

Either bad memory or an overheating issue.
Does it make any beeping noises when it turns off?

Not a peep. It's almost as if it's at peace with it's turning off.

Could be the video card/monitor is out of sync. When you go into Safe Mode can you tell us where the scrolling text stops?

Cool, it doesn't turn off anymore. But I went to check the writing and I get something new (I think it's bad):

    Code:
    multi(0)disk(0)rsdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
    multi(0)disk(0)rsdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\system32\hal.dll
    multi(0)disk(0)rsdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\system32\KDCOM.DLL
    multi(0)disk(0)rsdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\system32\BOOTVID.dll
    multi(0)disk(0)rsdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\system32\config\system
    multi(0)disk(0)rsdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\system32\config\system.log

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
I also don't know how to reinstall windows.

The hard drive may be dying, because that error message means some of the operating system files on the hard drive are corrupted.
