2)It's something one of the character controls and when used make one boss stronger, logically it should kill it but being friendly actually does kill it.
thinks:
1)It strengthen the boss and gives it one additional attack. If you become friendly to the boss, it will make the boss stronger but can be killed eventually.
2)The characters control the power and when the character use the power, that'll make the boss stronger but will kill it. If you're friendly to the boss, the boss will be killed eventually.
I think this is what eiko guy means. I don't know if it help you or not?
