Default Start of the French Revolution

Alright so what do you all think started it?

Was it when the third estate declared itself a national assembly?

Was it the Tennis court oath that said they would not disband untill a constitution had been drafted?

Was it The storming of the Bastille?

Or perhaps another event that has not been listed.

I personally feel that it was the declaration of the National Assembly. The tennis court oath only reinforced the assembly, so unlike some I have spoken with, I do not consider it the start of the revolution. The Bastille could also be the start in some eyes... but I really think it was just the first military bout of it.

So what is the opinion here I doth wonder?

Its hard to say about these things one event like this caused it, It was a chain of events, like dominos falling. There was the famine, the monarchs lavish spendings, the greed of peoppe lusting for there power, misunderstandings and ignorance on all sides, I think the tennis court oath was mearly one of the first manifistations of a chain of events that had been going on for a long time, the real war started when the events was trigged and not stopped, and when it went into actions it declined into an anarchy of death that would last for decades. The storming of the bastile was a important role in the events, when the women stormed the palace and the queen had to hide, if they found her they would of torn her to shreds.

I am not looking so much for causes as when the revolution "started". My bro puts it to the tennis court oath because he says it was the first mass opposition to the crown.

Cause wise.. well lets not go there.. that easily filled a several page essay type thing in Western Civ ..... And that was just a begining.

Much like the signing of the Declaration of Independence is considered the start of the American revolution, the storming of the Bastille is considered the start of the French revolution. Even though there were many other events that led up to them, these events are more or less the straws that broke their respective camels' backs.
