just get ff8 and forget that the rest of the world exists already xD
just buy the rest in the series (make sure you at least get FF7). They're all pretty good, and cheap.

Get FFVII, FFVIII after..........
Get FF9, it's basically epitomizes everything that Final Fantasy is in one game.
Buy the lesser known "FF Farmyard Tales : Economic Simulator" for the XJ-220. All the fun of real farming including long hours, messy conditions and foot and mouth!
