Those pictures were way too dark to tell and from what i can actually see (not that its much) Irvines hand is angled wrong to be holding hands. Its just an optical illusion. Squall's hand is in front of Irvine's and it looks as though they are holding hands. Plus Irvine didnt start getting freaked till he was handed the sniper rifle so there's no reason for him to seek comefort. And if they are in fact holding hands, whos to say Squall isnt grabbing his hand (or vice versa) as if to say 'Yo! it's starting, lets go!'.
