Actually, upon watching the video.. I clearly show Squall's hand being no where near Irvine's. Squall is shorter than Irvine, thus his hand is farther down. The stills you posted cut out Squall's hand, thus the appearance of it interlocking with Irvines.

Squall was annoyed with Rinoa throughout most of Disc 1 due to her lack of anything in the situation she was trying to command them in. She had no sense of authority, or any idea of what to do, and Squall just ended up doing whatever he thought was right. Sure, he may have been entranced at the dance or whatever, but you try being a loner and have this really hot girl ask you to dance, and not look into her eyes and wonder.
As for the whole holding hands thing, you're the only one arguing for it, and I guarantee they're not holding hands. The only explanation would be if he was pulling him to go, because Irvine was far from someone who needed comfort at that point, like people have said, it's not until the tower that he breaks down. Either way, I still KNOW they're not holding hands, and apparently I'm not the only one.
Now as for the actual topic of Squall's personality, he was a loner through most of the game, always thinking of all the real possiblities, and even saying them aloud a number of times. He's a natural leader as well, and for that, I direct you to another topic where I talk about that, somewhere around here
