I think they're still pretty mainstream, but Deep Dish is pretty good.

Many thanks Christmas!

You can't have a music collection without Roffle Harris.

Try Kamelot. I bought their latest CD, "The Black Halo" on the same day as Nightwish's "Once" and it's great. Their singer has a really good voice and there are female backing vocals on some of the songs...And yes, there is an orchestra on most of the tracks. Great Power Metal.
But, hey, there's always Dream Theater.
Iron Maiden, a great band that isn't quite like the rock you outlined but it's much better imo.
Go listen to The Butterfly Effect. No one seems to know who they are, but they're getting up the ladder on my list of favourite bands.
There is no signature here. Move along.

Get some more Killswitch Engage, too.
I'll have to try these. Thanks everyone! Killswitch Engage is very awesome, I love that song you recommended me by them, Dan. What other songs by them are good?![]()
My Last Serenade, Fixation on the Darkness, Rose of Sharyn...I can't remember anymore. There is a really suave little acoustic one on the album, but I don't know what it's called. I need to get the album. B)
Julien-K (derived from Orgy's musicians.) www.Julien-K.com You can sample pieces there. I suggest downloading some of their music. They've done soundtracks for Disney and SonicHeros.
Six Ounce Gloves. Fresno homegrown rock.
Maybe try The Gathering (I've only checked out their early albums such as Mandylion, Nighttime Birds and How To Measure A Planet where they apparently kept most of their "metal" sound) and White Willow (I liked Storm Season, their latest album). And since you mentioned you liked Symphony X, perhaps you can also try Adagio. Here are a few samples from their albums.
Yes.
