If I'm correct, the hurricane only hit the northeastern part of New Olreans really badly, but seems to continue moving northeastern. This is just what I got off of tv, correct me if I'm wrong, I have a horrible memory.
From what I heard, it got downgraded to cat 3 a few hours ago (when it reached the mouth of Pearl River), and was downgraded to cat 2 just moments ago.

hurricanes gain their strength from warm ocean water being pulled up into the storm. That stops happening when the hurricane goes over land. Unless it somehow manages to drop back into the ocean, which won't happen, it won't gain any more strength.
Me too. I live in Miami Beach, Florida where the winds were pretty strong and the eye hit us by the right side! But nothing compared to what happened today! I feel sorry for those people!
