    Default Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina, after passing over south Florida and popping out into the Gulf of Mexico, has strengthened into a Category 5 hurricane and is set to hit the New Orleans area Monday morning. Category five is the strongest cateogry of hurricane, with winds over 155 mph and storm surges over 18 feet high. Only three category 5 hurricanes have ever hit the US, most recently Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Due to the city of New Orleans's unique geography, being under sea level and surrounded by water on three sides, it is extremely succeptible to the ravages of a strong hurricane. The entire city has been evacuated, but many are stranded. Experts have predicted that a direct Cat 5 hurricane hit on New Orleans could be the most destructive natural event in the history of the US, with potential for over 25,000 deaths and over $100 billion in damages.

    Here's hoping that doesn't happen...

Yeah, I'm hoping everyone in N'Awlens will be okay. Hurricanes sound like a scary thing to face.

New Orleans has a lot of historic buildings also, I'm hoping no damage is made to them, because I find those buildings the most fascinating buildings in the entire world. I went there briefly once and I promised myself to go back and visit and take pictures, but if a hurricane is coming I'm really bummed out about it.

wow category 5, hasn't been seen since Ivan went on rampage. This hurricane seems to have the ability to surpass Hurricane Andrew's record. This is bad.

Holy that's a bit wall of wind. =/ I hope it doesn't do too much damage to New Orleans, but unless it turns south or something it's pretty much a guarantee that it'll go that way...

Is there a site where I can track this thing and see what happens and such? I suppose Wikipedia... but if anyone has any other sources, please let us know.

The tsunami that hit hte south pacific was prety big and everyone tried to down size it. I mean that quake caused the earth to tilt off its axis for that .01 second. Thats a big deal.lol Now htis hurricane and a ciy I never been to is about to be destroyed. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I knew I should've made a detour to New Orleans OMW to Mobile. But nooooooooooo I wanted to save time money and gas.

Yes, it'll be underwater all right. That's what you get for slicing down the trees, filling the swamps, and building your city TWELVE FEET BELOW SEA LEVEL. Seriously, whomever chose that city's location had the intelligence of a cashew. Wait... it was founded by the French... now I understand.

That being said, I hope they're all right. Also, my sister's name is Katrina. She's taking a lot of crap from morons who think they're being clever. Oddly, I'm not one of them... I may be evil, but I do have a sence of sport, and this is just too easy.
