Imagine if it was a higher grade - methinks marti gras may get soggy next year. The damage was pretty significant, I am just kinda in awe at it all.

New Orleans got hit pretty bad, though it would've been worse if it would've been hit dead on like they thought at first. I'm from Louisiana, and the majority of my family still lives there, so I've been hearing news all day. They are all fine, thank God, but I also have family in Mississippi, where it's a LOT worse than New Orleans. Mobile and Gulfport were ripped to shreds and the floodwater is bad. My great-aunt had a stroke during all of it, and last we heard she was being taken to the hospital (this was shortly before they were hit full force by Katrina) and don't know anything about her condition yet.

This has been a really bad hurricane season.

A tornado hit areas around Georgia Southern College and so far we have one recorded death. For the rest of the evening here it's just been steadily raining. Seems like a bad year in weather.

Yeah... this is pretty intense stuff =/ Especially because yesterday many were thinking the worst had passed and it wasn't as bad as was feared. Then later, a levee broke and New Orleans was flooded very rapidly =/

Over in Biloxi, things look to be just as bad if not worse. A spokesman has said that even the emergency services have found it necessary to loot from a convenience store because people were working triple shifts and, presumably, because it's hard to get supplies in and out.

A lot rides on how much silt Katrina deposited. If there's more than can be quickly cleared, then there's going to be a huge problem in imports and exports for the US, meaning prices of pretty much everything, everywhere, will end up rising.

Isn't 80% of the city underwater now?

    It's unreal.
And what's insane is that they plan on rebuilding the city. Maybe it's just me, but I think that once they evacuate all the people they possibly can, they should just let it go under. Something like this is bound to happen there again someday.
I know it's not quite that simple, they can't just let the city go, but I don't understand why anyone would want to continue living there.

It's likely because they refuse to let nature dehome them.

I think it'll be the saem once the San Andreas fault finally gives way, could be tomorrow could be 1000 years but We all know It will happen.

hurricane season has barely started and it's not unlikely A Hurricane more powerful than Andrew, David, Ivan or Katrina will come. Thats what I think, this just isn't right.

I used to live there in Biloxi/Gulfport, like I've said, and our local news station has a website with . . . . devastating fotogage of Biloxi and Gulfport.

Its nothing now. What's the worst is knowing where everything is . . . or where everything USED to be. I grew up there for 18 years and even though I'm living up north it still feels like I've lost something too great to describe.

So far I know my father is alright ( he was staying at Keesler ) and my brother and his girlfriend are fine. I don't know about my Grandma Linda though so I'm still anxious to hear.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this atrocious beast.
