Which I don;t think you would agree with. When Americans invest (for a less charitable word) in aiding a country, they would like to see thier money being used wiseley. It makes a lot of relevant sence when you think about it. It's just not as easy to help as it should be.
I still feel that this is a valid breakdown of the niger situation. I really fail to see why it is bad that we care about our own worries before others?

because bipper in october when niger went to the un and begged for aid and said 3 million people would starve to death this year in that country america turned it's back. not because it had it's own problems. not because it was preparing for this hurricane but it just didn't care. there was no public out cry. noone gave a damn. a few more starving africans isn't news worthy. but this hurricane is news worthy. that's why it gains aid from the UN, EU and NATO.

and on the topic of the UN aid. for all the UN bashing done around here and saying that they hate america. the UN offered aid immediatly without being asked to a country they supposedly hate. but more suprising than that the US accepted without question from the organisation it has spent the last 8 years treading into the ground. are we to see a new light on this?

and can anything positive come from this? will free evacuations now be given to all people to prevent this again? could the various health problems be solved by a more socialist health system? a crack down on guns to prevent violence on this? a realisation that oil is not a stable to energy source? a drift away from the war on terror?

or will it just always be something to ignite tensions?

do you remember when it came down to the asian tsunami what we got in the news was stories of terrorists in indonesia giving up arms to work along side government forces to help. but with this we here not of human compassion in terms of adveristy but of a shoot to kill policy on looting, rape, robbery and murder. why is that?

Uhm, Cloud No. 9: The US currently provides huge amounts of aid money to the third world. It also contributes over a thrird of the UN's entire funding.

Like I said though, Niger is not a safe investment. Sure we can throw money and feed them, but the problems they have lie in a corrupt civilization. They need a revolution. I doubt we have enough respect in the world to launch anotherone of them We can through food and water at them, so they can reproduce and have a billion more babies that are hungry and starving. I agree that they need help, but its not in our agenda, or we are not able to help them in the way we should.

I wonder if we invaded Niger instead of Iraq, and left Iraw be - would we be getting flack for leaving Kurds die in Iraq? I dunno. /shrug

Why is it our job to make everyone happy at once when we have no morral allies in the world. Save for a few Most people seem jsut to want to degrates us, don;t hate the player, hate the game! (One of the few ghetto fabulous sayings that actually holds meaning )

I see everyloss of life as tragic, in Katrina, the Tsunami, in famine and starvation. What I hate to see is a country unwilling to help itself. I am sure that Niger is on the political menu, but it is a lot more delicate than even the Iraq situation.

That's all just my opinion though.
    Back to Katrina,
I am glad to see everything going well. The water is finally going out of the city. It will take a few weeks, before the rebuilding can take place. I hope the extend the levies and build a memorial park for this incident so that we may always have a looming reminder.

I find this insident like the lazy grasshoper who didn't prepare for winter, and laughed at the ants whom were gathering food. It should teach us all a huge lesson on prioratising human life, before other large expendatures.

Those aren't allies, those are people shamed into doing the right thing by the actions of our true allies.
My friend Delzethin is currently running a GoFundMe account to pay for some extended medical troubles he's had. He's had chronic issues and lifetime troubles that have really crippled his career opportunities, and he's trying to get enough funding to get back to a stable medical situation. If you like his content, please support his GoFundMe, or even just contribute to his Patreon.

He can really use a hand with this, and any support you can offer is appreciated.

The people who stood up immediately to offer aid, whether it was asked of them or not, not the people who sat around for a few days before deciding that they should pledge support because they would look bad otherwise.

No, at the time I made my initial list of countries who had pledged support, those countries were the only ones who had done so.

blackline. aid is not a to way game. the first world can support the third world. the third world cannot support the first.

what do you expect? uganda to suddenyl hand over some food packages? ethiopia to send water? sudan to send money? while their people starve?

it's not aboiut earning. it's about those who can doing their human duty.

america frankly does not need it.

the un was not asked for aid. it did however need to be voted upon. the eu and nato were asked and gave. unlike niger that asked and was laughed at.
