    Default OPETH Anyone?

If you have ever heard OPETH before you know what the hell I'm talking about.

    Peter Lingrin's massive riffs.
    Lopez's psychotic drumming.
    Martin Mendez's rocking Bass.
    And Mikeal Akerfeld's GOD-LIKE (and I mean GOD-LIKE) Voice.

Their new album (Ghost Reveries) just came out in Australia and am absolutly stoked.
I just want to know if anyone here loves them or at least have heard of them.

    FMA.

    LOVE RAZAEL

Love the AVATAR, Zeppelin Rules. (FYI: Fave song from Led ZEP is Achielles last stand)

Opeth are great. Blackwater Park is my favourite album.

I have only the vaguest recollection of who they are and what music they play.
There is no signature here. Move along.

They play progressive melodic death metal.

The only album of their's I like is Damnation, and it follows Ok Go on my playlist, the downbeat tones working as a perfect antidote to the seemingly-cheerful tones of the previous band.

    S'great stuff.

I wouldn't really say they're progressive, just Melodic Death.

They're nothing like regular Melodic Death Metal. Progressive Death would fit better than Melodic Death.

Blackwater Park is awesome, they do different stuff with each album.
However, Damnation and Deliverence could very well have been the same album.

Razael's Fave album: My arms, Your Hearse.
Fave song: A fair judgment, Deliverence.

Actually, I don't think they've changed that much over the years. I have no idea what you're saying about Damnation and Deliverance though.

Opeth are progressive death metal, and for the most part the "progressive" label encompasses (among other things such as technicality and song structures) how much melody they put into an inherently unmelodic genre like death metal so yeah... progressive melodic death metal would be redundant.

I love Opeth, I've heard every album except Morningrise (but I will!) and loved them. My favorite is Still Life, but they haven't made a *bad* album in my eyes. I really enjoy Ghost Reveries so far.
