You're not, and even if you are mistreating them I'm going to wager the vast majority are there for a reason. Example: Moazamm Begg admitted on national TV when he arrived in Britain after being released from Gitmo that he had both visited and funded an Al'Quada training camp. Also: Remember the stories of the Koran being flushed down the toilet? Well, turns out those were complete lies. Didn't hear that reported widely, did you?

Finally, although I sadly can't track it down specifically, there is a text in some terrorist handbook or other which explicitly states that captured jihadists are to do everything possible to make the world believe they are being abused in custody.
