Back in those days, the killing of innocent wasn't such a big deal - villages were pillaged, women were raped, and it was all legit. Today, everyone who's not a soldier, is innocent. Back then, merely being part of a people or a nation meant that you were not innocent, and worthy of the same fate as any soldier.
