I don't post so much these days. Lurking is fine. Starting threads? Yeah, from me that's even more unheard of. And I know a lot of people in this particular branch of the forums know even less of my existance. And forgive me if this topic is going on in the Katrina thread or one of the others regarding her or her destruction. But I think this topic alone deserves its own thread, if only until it gets resolved. I think everyone should look at this

Yes, you know the link. Let me tell you, their servers went down. Its not the site it used to be. The guy is only using enough bandwidth to blog right now and he was TRYING to run a charity, until PayPal seemingly STOLE $20,000 that was raised in just HOURS. A donation drive the likes of which I've personally never heard of, and was all going towards helping out down south and good ol' PayPal put one hell of a stop to it. Read. Be appauled. Be aware.

Just like Maddox and the Orbitz issue. But I think this is far worse.

Wow, I have never liked these guys. This is just undeniably gay. Definatley worse than Maddox's orbits fiascal.

I am now officially boycotting Paypal I emailed this story to everyone on my list, and I hope they suffer at least a $20k death. I did put a disclaimer on there. Is this site pretty legit or what? I was never 100% sure about this or maddox's troubles with orbitz.

I haven't researched, but considering what's USUALLY on somethingawful.com I have to be inclined to believe it. He wouldn't destroy his whole site to put up a blog to scam. Pretty sure this is real. Even so, he says so himself (in the massive ramble) he's losing a lot doing this, and that doesn't even matter to him. All he cared about at the moment was the donations, and now that's gone. =/

SA's pretty classy about the way they handle things, so I really doubt that they'd potentially drag their name through the mud for a scam. It's just not their style.

I have a paypal account but I have never used it for anything or ever put any money into it or done anything beyond putting my name and fake information into it.

Legit or not, both of those companies suck and huge problem and deserve to be slammed like they are. With as much traffic as those sites get, if it wasn't true they would probably be taken to court over it. Hell! Penny Arcade was taken to court over a parody comic they made.

That's quite pathetic that anyone would have the heart to take charity from something going to help thousands in need. Paypal is indeed a horrible service. I hope they get it ironed out. That's just really sickening. If I was him I don't know what I would do. I'd be too upset. 20,000 dollars locked in an account because of suspicious activity. It's a donation.. Wow. >.<

I still have love for PayPal, Ive used it through eBay for ages. Faster, and easier sending money that way.
But maybe that was wrong, but I can honestly say I dont care.....

I'm going to assume that rather than being malevolent (Because, and especially given the popularity of SA, this will do massive harm to them.) that they are just going through their standard procedures when they find something suspicious.

Who do you believe? It could be a scam unrelated to Paypal? Do you know of proof of anything? Paypal does suck but for different reasons. For one thing, I think it's a bad idea to link to your bank account. After a modest amount of money of a transaction, it's a bad idea. I think 1000 or a few $1000, anything more is asking for trouble. $20,000, you gotta be kidding me.
