i wonder if he had some kind of "Reverse Effect" materia. That way, maybe he wears a diaper with 2 connecting materia slots, throws on a Gravity and a Reverse Effect on there and it lets him float?

I might be wrong, but I think he was alluding to the fact that Gravity materia is usually used with a crushing effect. This "referse effect" would then cause it to repel (like the same sides of a magnet). As for that last bit, well there's no explaining that :D
