- The "moai" in FFIV is actually based on the supposed human face photographed on the surface of Mars in 1976. It kind of makes sense since it's on the moon and all.
- In FFV, it's on the ocean floor, and it actually looks like the skull from a prehistoric human. If it is a moai, it certainly has an uncharacteristic creepy grin.
- In Seiken Densetsu 2, it's underwater again, but since there's no submarine in this game, you can see it from the air. It's especially hard to spot here since it amounts to a mere irregularity in the Mode 7 pixellation of the world map.
- FFVII was the first instance of the faces actually looking like moai. There are moai in the background of the chocobo racetrack, and there's also a large one cleverly hidden in the background of one of the Great Glacier areas.
- In FFVIII, there's a side-quest where you witness a flying saucer abduct various objects. One of them is a moai.
- There's apparently no moai in FFIX, which is strange since it was so big on nostalgia.
