Penance is an optional boss that appears in the International or PAL version of the FFX game. It pops up after you defeat all the Dark Aeons. It's quite a challenge given that most of the Dark Aeons are about the equivalent of Nemesis and Penance is only a bazillion times harder.
I can't really help you with Penance (since I beat him with Zanmato and all xD) but I suppose Quick Hit is a must on ALL characters, or else you won't even get a second hit in before you die.

As far as I know, Penance has the highest HP of all bosses in the history of Final Fantasy. If Emerald from VII had it over the roof then I don't wanna imagine how much Penance has. Heck I don't even know how he looks like!

and he has 12 million HP... plus half a mil for each of his arms, which you have to kill numerous times... and i have not yet beaten him, i came close once, i think, but in his second form he uses an attack called judgement day, which does 99 999 damage to all!!! very bad!!!

Do a goolgle search for Split_Infinities FFX walkthough. It details, step by step, a stratagy to beat penance with a 100% success rate. That's right, there is no way you can lose if you follow the guide to the letter...
Penance isn't that hard...
So Penance does not appear in the NA version of FFX?
Because they're all pussies and will take the game back because "It's too godamn hard, man".

Aww man, I was hopin to face a good challenge.
Depends on "how" he's fought.
I guess If you try fighting him after using clear spheres to wipe out your entire grip would be quite hard....
