And the highest alcohol content that's mass produced is 190 proof (I think), which translates to 95%. This is called everclear. Everclear tastes like rubbing alcohol. I'm sure moonshiners can make 200 proof liquor, but I wouldn't want to be around those stills.

Vodka, even Absolut, only goes up to around 50%, I believe. If I'm wrong, correct me, please! I live and die based upon correction.

Alcohol is a very American answer:
Its a way to piss money away and make a problem seemingly subsied. Really it makes you numb to the problems, and creates an addiction which inflates spending. Teh problem then becomes tolerant and needs more and more eventually the problem begins to affect others. The others care deeply, and create groups for the sole purpose of curing the alcoholic's problems. It never works, as alcoholism is the easy ticket out. And eventually the alcoholic will subside to it again. Its metephorical irony!

Do they make 200 proof? I thought the only thing they marketed was like 197.

im pretty sure they cant make anything 200 proof, cause that would be something like rubbing alcohol.and i think the highest proof you can have is moonshine (190 proof), in which they dont sell it in stores cause if made wrong then you could go blind (among other problems). so the only way you can have moonshine is if it is home made.

Moonshine is a general term for homemade booze. There's good moonshine and bad moonshine, strong moonshine and weak moonshine. I don't think it's possible to make 100% alcohol without being denatured, which is pretty expensive to do, definitely too expensive for moonshine, and is usually reserved for chemistry research and such. Everclear is 190 Proof, as FOA mentioned, but I think it also comes in 151. It's illegal in a lot of states, though, because of the strength, and isn't really used for much except mixing with stuff. A straight shot of Everclear won't kill you, but you'll wish it did. Taking shots of Everclear requires you to be either very stupid, or...well, no, that's about it, just very stupid.

I did six shots over the course of one night, once. Two were mixes and four were straight. I'm not dumb ;_;

EDIT: Thinking about it, the fact that I didn't pass out and still never had a hangover leads me to believe it was probably not 190 proof. xD I never saw the bottle sober, so I didn't see the label.
