this goes in Gen FF. Tactics has the best story by far, so I added it, then I felt guilty and added the other spinoffs too.

Even though FFVII had excellent character development, the story kind of sucked. I liked the story from FFIV best.

FF Legend isn't really a FF game though, they just stuck the name on it for the US release.

definitely ff7. there are so many aspects of the story line that you can work off of if you want to create ur own sequel, prequel, or just a general fanfic of it. you can write about the turks, you can write about red xiii's species, you can write about vincent, lucrecia, the war of wutai, or even make a completely new storyline. maybe Shinra succeeded at building Neo-Midgar far into the future or something. use ur imagination.

FFVI definitely had as much you could build off of it... I mean, prequel with the War of the Magi, what happened after, magic was suppossed to dissapear and all espers, so what happens to Terra, what about everyone else, what about Cyan who has no home...I mean there are so many lose ends in this game as well, it could have just as many sequels/prequels as FFVII is getting

As was said, the Final Fantasy Legends are part of the SaGa series.
