Do what Meo said, but junction 100 Deaths to Status Junction to all characters for a one hit K.O.! If you wanna get Tonberry's Chef's Knife(which turns into 30 Deaths) easily, play some card games!
Painless...what do you mean you wanna' get to the city when you're already at the city?
Why not just junction Initiative on Quistis, have her on low health and then use Degenerator on Elnoyle instantly - kills it before it even has the chance to attack - and this can be repeated as many times as you want. I got 2 Energy Crystals each time I did this! Simple.
