I have to agree. They certainly catch your attention. But usually the things said withing are not really that attention grabbing. Not to say that people that use them aren't worth listening to, but just not that worth listening to. If they were used in announcements or in-thread warnings or something that'd be worth listening to.

Type out all the table code. Its quite lame. Maybe there's a shortcut I'm unaware of. But I think this is just one of the drawbacks of allowing certain html codes to exist for users to abuse.
I have to say though. I really hate it when someone starts a thread with tables. I like to use the preview pop-up thing (hold your mouse over a thread for a few seconds to get a snippet of the first post (or the whole actual post)) and when tables are used first thing, all you see is freaking HTML code instead of a post T_T
