When I was in high school I served coffee for a nickel a cup. And it was good too.

I did not find that flash cartoon amusing, by the way.

    'I'm gay and I'm proud'
Is that the type of crap they are putting on the cup? Then I am against it too. Not to bash gays, I have little to no problem with them; but why hit up such strange subjects. I personally am not offended per se, but its just impolite to have such things on a cup. It is the cup saying I am gay and proud that one would have to drink coffee out of. I mean, if I seen an 50 year old man enjoying his cup of joe out of a glass that said that, I would hit the floor laughing. I won't bitch too loudlt though, I just wont buy starbucks.

That is simply how a situation should be handled.

Actually the cup does not say 'I am gay and proud of it'. Or at least that isn't how I inferred it. From what I have read heard this is all the closer they get to that type of statement

Maupin's quote — one of several dozen in "The Way I See It" promotion — says his only regret about being gay is that he repressed it for so long.

"I surrendered my youth to the people I feared when I could have been out there loving someone. Don't make that mistake yourself. Life's too damn short."
Quite frankly I see nothing wrong cause it can be read in more then just that way. Just about anything, if not everything, written can have different meanings to different people.

It's not "I'm gay and I'm proud," it's "I am who I am and I regret wasting my life hiding it." Or, specifically (as Shun just posted) "I surrendered my youth to the people I feared when I could have been out there loving someone. Don't make that mistake yourself. Life's too damn short." Which I think it a beautiful quote.

lol thats basicly saying gay pride. I wouldn't wanna buy a cup like that and why would Starbucks put that crap on a cup? Who the hell thinks its fashionable to carry a starbuclks cup around anyway?

Plus lol I'm about 20 miles away from a starbucks so yeah it sucks....well really I'm kinda fortunate.

not neccesarily. The first time I heard I thought it dealt with people who hid their crushes due to fear of rejection and or negative peer pressure. It was only after I read how 'they' linked it, that I could interpret it that way.

so he. It is a good qoute.

However, as with all quotes and such, 'it is all in the eye of the beholder(reader)'. You can make just about anything offensive in someway or another. So I don't worry about this sort of stuff. Particually when is actually positive.

The quote can apply to anything. I don't think it's about "pride" at all; it about just being.

But still the big questions lies. Since when was a cup considered a fashion statement?

I'm serious about this question. I mean I know certain cups have certain importance like a cup signifying that you I dunno survived an F5 or climb Mt. Keneedy or Everst. Or been to Disney World. Or it has osmehting funny on it that everyone can laugh or relate to. I dunno I just think Starbucks is now cattering to the suburban youth.

My point being. Who would think your cool if you been to a starbucks cuz your cup said so. I mena come on... Starbucks is almost everywhere you go. Mt. Everest isn't everywhere you go. Same with Disney World. their may be more than one disney world, but then you can say I've been to Euro Disney World or Japan Disney world. I mean its just something not everyone goes to. Plus only americans brag about where they've traveled to.

As stated in the article, the cups aren't a "fashion statement," and the quotes are there to stimulate conversation. Which they do.

the cups are disposable. you know how some coffee cups have poker hands on them and you can look at what hand you got and then check the bottom for the fifth card. Same concept except they have quotes to stimulate thought and conversation. People like to sit around coffee shops and talk, so it makes sense, I guess. It's not like they are selling reuseable plastic cups with these sayings on them and you would specifically choose which cup to buy.

"Conversation starters" is not a novel concept.
