Not even that. Just an unfortunate alignment of three seperate weather patterns. Every few years, the Atlantic, somehow, becomes really stormy. Producing more tropical storms than usual. In this case, it coincided with another weather cycle that occurs every decade or so, it has to do with the "Trade Winds" being more powerful than usual. These two mean more storms on the gulf course. Unfortunately, it occures right on top of another (every couple decades) event where the Gulf of Mexico becomes far warmer than average.
