Thread: Porn for pictures of dead Iraqis

Well, I think these articles are pretty repulsive, however I completely agree with Theundeadhero and sympathize with him. I don't know about the intentions of the soldiers posting these pictures and videos, but honestly I don't think that the original idea of posting videos or pictures of the horrible slaughters that are going on in Iraq are disgusting at all. In fact, I think people should be forced to see that. That's the way the world really is, as opposed to the way the media and American government wants you to think that it is. Also, who are you to say what is stooping low when you're nowhere near what's going on, and clearly have no idea what it's like to participate in and see the things these guys experience on a daily basis? The fact that these truthful and telling images and videos are being posted on the Internet isn't disturbing to me at all. You can post anything on the Internet and I guarantee whatever it is there is some people who would get themselves off to it. There are people getting off to Dora the Explorer, that doesn't make airing Dora the Explorer disgusting.

That disturbs you? I just took bloodlust in the armed forces for granted. Isn't it one of the main motivators and/or prerequisites for wanting/being able to join any military force?

Well I've never understood it. Why else would you want to learn how to kill people?

On second thoughts, I'll ignore this forum topic. It'll only lead to an argument and I don't want to be banned from EoFF.

I think there is a difference between a war document and posting pictures of dead people on a porn site. It's the context what makes the difference, and yes, I insist, defense system or not, it is morally disgusting, for me, someone doing that has the dignity of a bug. One thing is showing the truth, the other is being a morbid bastard, and given the nature of the site the pictures are being posted at, I bet more people are there to see gore than to "know what's actually going on". People don't visit rotten.com to learn about human anatomy once disected. Again, in case you have not read the article fully, here is where the big difference between information and sensationalism resides:

Other images appear to be of Iraqi civilians. A series of photos showing two men slumped over in a pickup truck, with nothing visible above their shoulders except a red mass of brain matter and bone, is described as "an Iraqi driver and passenger that tried to run a checkpoint during the first part of OIF." The post goes on to say that "the bad thing about shooting them is that we have to clean it up." Another post, labeled "dead shopkeeper in Iraq," does not explain how the subject of the photo ended up with a large bullet hole in his back but offers the quip "I guess he had some unsatisfied customers."
If I ever die in a war, I really hope I won't end up with my dead body being posted on a porn site forum for some sicko to enjoy.

I really don't know how to respond to this one. All I can say is that I certainly didn't enter the military for the chance to kill people. Neither did my brother, father, or uncles. Neither did my my friends here at the Academy. And I think it's safe to say that neither did the majority of the servicemen and women in the Armed Forces.

Undead Hero did, though. He's killed thousands, nay, millions of people with his bare hands. And that's just before he has breakfast

Thank you. For all my issues with the war, I have nothing but respect for those who serve.

Oh, definitely. The armed forces deserve respect and support even when we don't agree with the war they're involved in.
It is a psychological defense mechanism to belittle things like that, especially when seen in mass quantities, in order to help your psyche deal with the situation. It helps to break it down and not let the situation overwhelm you.
So the pics desensitize you to the war? Basically make it seem easier, maybe less emotionally straining, to kill people? I don't know if that's wise. I can understand how it can be necessary in some cases, so I do see your point, but that doesn't make me feel better.

As far as the argument about the pictures being posted at a porn site goes; that is the only site soldiers know about that is readily available to post those kind of pics. If there were any other site they knew of the pictures would be posted there too. Even if the site didn't have any other kind of negative associations.

    rotten.com?

Oh, and the site is not the big problem. The problem is the context. Killing someone, or taking a picture of someone killed by somebody, and then laugh at it in such way shows absolutely no sensitivity or regard for life.

Why on EARTH do soldiers need to post them in the first place? There is ZERO defence for this sick madness. Flip the script and imagine an Arab site dedicated to posting pictures of mutilated Coalition soldiers & civilians. There are some and they are condemned and called sick. Severe lack of respect for your fellow humans and US servicemen should be ashamed of themselves.

As an afternote to add to this discussion, Theatre General Order number 1 has recently been modified to make everything discussed in this thread illegal.
