Hm... what I occasionally wonder is why Laguna didn't return to check up on Ellone. Okay, so he didn't know Squalle xisted, but Ellone is kinda his steph-daughter.
Then again, if all Esthari people are looking up to him to run the country I can imagine Laguna unable to resist their pleas and becoming a president. Must have been a pretty nasty attack of guilt when he hears Squall was there. (whether the guilt would be deserved...)
Another note, has anyone considered CARAWAY's position on the whole thing? The woman he loves dearly had her heart broken when Laguna left and didn't return from a mission. So many years later, apparently, the guy is still alive, he fell in love, married, had a kid that ended in an orphanage (the kid that is now dating HIS daughter) and after that, ended up becoming the president of the nation that was an enemy to his home nation...
On the other hand, it HAS been suggested that Caraway is the red-dressed soldier in the hotel when Julia and Laguna meet, that says he'll send Laguna a 'million miles away'.
If the General and the President ever meet, I predict les sthan amicable conversation.

Yes, Squall is child of Raine-Laguna.. But you know, Laguna is love Ellone more then as his child..... Look at the dialouge with Kiros and Ward in front of blahblah I forgot it.. He say that Ellone is....LADY?!! It means......... He want to married with Ellone?!!?!#@^!#$(&*^
