I love this game. It's so zanny and the music to it is nice. I've never played the first one, so I dunno if this tops the first or not, but it still is awesome.

It definitely lost that "Wow, what is this?" appeal of the first one, but that doesn't hurt it an awful lot.
Like Katarmari Damacy, We Love Katamari is just as fun (If not more so), and enjoyable.
I personally thought the story sequences were quite humorous by themselves, but pretty much everything about the game is funny, light hearted, and enjoyable.
I'd recommend it to everyone.

The music is a LOT better in the first one, but the amount of stuff you can do in the second one is so much greater. Really, it's an awesomely quirky game that isn't too difficult to master but still a lot of fun.
And I must say: King of the Cosmos + Pompadour =
I prefer the second, i thought they managed to make it much weirder
