What's more, alot of the comments here are taking the question seriously. The fact is that had Aeris lived, the plot of the game would have been butchered. Having her live, or having her revivable, would ruin the plot.

Also, I did say "alot" of the posts, not all of them.
Besides, Tifa and Aeris probably would have a catfight (in some form. Possibly they'd just yell at each other) over who gets Cloud. And Tifa would win, because she cares for Cloud more than Aeris does.
