Thread: Satanism

I use to follow Satanism quite a lot, and was well known in British Satanic circles.

Essentially, Satan is a metaphor for yourself, for if you take the definition of God as "the most important being in your life" then you would have to say that you are your own God, since there is no one more important in life than yourself.

It encourages moderate indulgence instead of abstinance, exploring sexuality and the delights of life and so on. "Responsibility to the responsible" is also a very important maxim in Satanism.

Satanism has "Sins". The no.1 sin being "stupidity". Satanists hate stupid people.

It worked for me when I was younger (around 17-20 years old), but now I'm a wee bit older, I see the world differently. Satanist almost encourages a single human to live on a self-sustaining island, if you like, where I realised that you can't go through life without interacting with people. You can't help it. Humans are social creatures. So if you're gunna interact with people, might as well do it in a way that makes people feel better.

That's the train of thought that lead me to Buddhism which is what I study now.

Anymore questions on Satanism, feel free to ask.

    I oppose the philosophy.

I believe that whatever you spend more time wanting, you'll just want more. So if you spend time indulging in a desire, it doesn't go away, it gets bigger. If you like to go shopping, then you'll want to spend more of your free time shopping and buying. You won't reach a point at which you'll say "I've had enough sex", or "I have enough junk". You feed a desire, it grows.

Another problem is the "smash the other cheek" mentality. That doesn't end the conflict. It makes things worse. Then the person who's cheek got smashed pulls out a .45 and blows off your head. Then your posse kills 3 members of his posse. This isn't good.

I'm personally more of a Confucian. But I suppose to each his own.

You sound very Buddhist I must say.

I agree with you, however. Desire is like a fire. Indulge in it, and the fire grows stronger, demanding more and more fuel. The answer? Extinguish the fire... Nirvana...

Or we can go with my people's philosophy. That one must understand our minds, bodies and souls are seperate forces. Essentially three mutually exclusive beings forever meshed and blurred together to create humans. The object isn't to conquer, or to indulge, but to understand. And in understanding oneself, to find the answer that brings satisfaction without the mutually unnatural states of gluttony or self-imposed denial.

Satan is my lord and master. He gets a lot of bad press but he's just misunderstood. A bit like Cory Feldmann.

He introduced me to women, sex, drugs and alcohol. This God you speak of sounds dull.

Christians believe that, too. That's why we have things like sex being evil and virtue impossible on earth.

Satanism has no God, no diety. They live much for themselves.

Satan doesn't worship the devil, this is Christian propaganda invented centuries ago. People who practise this are referred to as "devil worshippers".

A Satanist worships oneself. Seeing himself as the most important person in their life, they take care of themselves and place their needs above everyone elses. They believe in being responsible, truthful, intelligent, indulging in one's desires (provided it harms no one else) and they avoid stupidity like the plague.

That's why this is counterfeit individualism. The true individual would not need other people, period. Satanists, the ones I met, put themselves above all others, in the sense that they would sacrifice everyone else's desires to their own.

It's flawed, for all the same reasons that its opposite, Christianity, is.

I don't follow your point with satanism either. Its easily the most simple religion, as the concept of the worship is to fufil yourself. Albiet through power, eating, being healthy, gaining money - whatever. Satanists don't really care for other as stated above. They do not physically harm others though. They may focus all thier hatred and thoughts on them, or practice other forms of hate on thier enemies. Satanism does put the worshiper above everyone else, that does not nessasarally mean that they need other people to dominate over to fufill thier religion. Solitude may very well be one's objective.

Its polar, Christianity, is for the most part the teachings to take care of yourself bpth spiritually and physically. Christ's teachings were focused on an overtone of love, compassion, grace, and sympothy. I am really interested to see your opinion on how it is flawed though. If you get into some of the churches, I would agree that there are many rudimental flaws, but not as far as the basic teachings go.

If I may ask a personal question, are you of any religion, Hachi?
