You didn't find anything on Alla? Man, you really must not have looked that hard. And yeah, they're called Avatars in FFXI.

You can get the Avatars in one of two ways, either through the Level 20 Avatar Battles, or through the Prime Avatar Battles. The Prime Avatar battles can only be done if you have a lvl 60+ Mage or a lvl 65+ melee character. Most people opt to do the lvl 20 battles.

    Level 20 Avatar Battles:

Trial Size Trial by Earth (Titan)

Trial Size Trial by Fire (Ifrit)

Trial Size Trial by Ice (Shiva)

Trial Size Trial by Water (Leviathan)

Trial Size Trial by Lightening (Ramuh)

Trial Size Trial by Wind (Garuda)

Once you've completed all these Level 20 Avatar Battles, you can go for Fenrir

I'm not gonna give summoner a go until I've gotten to a high enough level to do all the prime battles so I can have all the avatars.

Besides, I like avatars more than most of the other things summons have been named.

I dunno, I think the Prime Avatar battles sorta take the fun out of it. I mean, you're not even using the SMN job in order to get those avatars if you do the prime battles and that's just odd. I like to think of it as a right of passage for a Summoner to defeat these avatars one on one in order to aquire them as summons.

Sure, if you are rich and have the patiences for fustration, you can do the level 20 fights. The prime battles make it a hell of a lot easier, and you get to do it in a group of 6. I don't really see it taking the fun out of it, you still have to fight the damn things.

I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with the Prime battles. In fact, having those avatars available to you right off the bat is really handy and makes you more valuable to your party in the dunes.

All I'm saying is that if I'm going to battle these Avatars, I want to face them as a Summoner. And there are firm strategies that take away a lot of the frustration inherent in these battles.

    Plus, I like the challenge.

So yeah, I do think that the Prime battles take the fun out of it, for me.

    I'm not a man.

And if you're talking about the Prime Battle, you'll be slaughtered with a 31 WAR. If you're talking about the Level 20 Avatar Battle, you need to use your lvl 20 SMN for that fight.

Gotta say that you CANNOT get Fenrir unless its a prime battle, so you can only get Fenrir if you have another lvl 70+ job.

Well it's all about you, isn't it?! Hehe, just kidding. I didn't mean to take your opinion as invalid. So please forgive him.

I don't wanna be a drag but personally do not believe it is reasonable to get all of your avatars through mini avatar battles for several reasons. Me and my wife have seen more people than we can count quit the game over these because they wanted to be a SMN straight away and found it immensely difficult for all of the following reasons.

    Fame
Fame for some of these is not so difficult to get but for some it is very rough. I believe the minis require less fame but for some regions that makes them not much less difficult. Norg is not a fun place to build fame for. I believe Windy fame is connected with Kazham fame so if you want Ifrit that's the fame you'll need.

    Cost
I would assume that you probably have a level 30 mage job... maybe WHM. There are a few good ways to make money but in general I would say that mini avatar battles are prohibitively expensive. You will need a great number of things such as Potions, Ethers and Yag Drinks to do these battles and the cost to have enough of these is nothing to laugh at. Depending on several factors it could easily cost you 50-100k in medicines alone for a single avatar battle. If you get killed doing it then you just lost however much time it too you to farm that much money worth of materials which I would guess to be an inordinate amount of time at lower levels.

    Difficulty
These are hard.... they are very very hard. You can be very skilled... have all of your BPs and medicines and 2hr macroed. You can have great gear including Carby Mitts and there is still a decent chance that luck will turn against you and smite you.

Like I said... many people have quit over this. They spend a week farming to get the money for a single mini avater battle... they lose... they farm for a week... they lose. After a month all they have done in game is farm and for nothing. They usually end up quitting. The amount of time it would take to get all of your avatars would be stupefying. I had to stay it but if you really wanna go SMN level up BLM or WHM. As BLM you will have front row invitations at level 65+ to all of the Primes and you will be highly sought after for Fenrir with a RDM/DRK 3-5xBLM setup.

If you have the resolve to try them go ahead but I'd hate to see you get frustrated and quit the game.

I know for a fact that the mini Avatar battles don't cost anything more than 20k on my server. So cost isn't a problem for me. And I've been very lucky to have 2 level 75 Summoners guide me through the process. Which potions I need, where to position myself, et cetera.

It took me over 150 dead leeches to get my Ruby for the SMN quest. I know all about SMN frustration. But you deal with it and when you achieve your goal, it feels that much better. Hey, maybe I'm just a bit of a masochist. Or maybe I just think y'all are making the level 20 Avatar battles to be more than what they really are.

People who quit over something like this must be the same people who quit when they can't beat Maat the first (second, third, fourth) time.
